The Alfred Wegener Institute carries out research in the Arctic and Antarctic as well as in the high and mid latitude oceans. The institute coordinates German polar research and makes available to national and international science important infrastructure, e.g. the research icebreaker “Polarstern” and research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic.

Melimoyu Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting native forests and marine and coastal ecosystems of southern Chile. Its mission is to ensure the protection of 50,000 hectares of coastal and maritime territory (Marine Protected Area) and 38,000 hectares of temperate rain forests (Wildlife Sanctuary) located around the Melimoyu volcano in the area of the fjords of southern Chile.

Ocean Sounds is a private organization dedicated to the investigation of marine animals, public education, and conservation of the marine environment. Their main research focus is the study of biology and communication of killer whales, pilot whales and dolphins, among others, in the Lofoten islands in northern Norway. Ocean Sounds aims to build a foundation for understanding and protection of the marine ecosystem.
